Cycling in Canberra is a pleasant experience in comparison to the hustle and bustle of Sydney. The cycle track around Lake Burley Griffin does not go near any busy roads, and it is nearly all off road. The track passes near many of Canberra’s major buildings and monuments – there is also plenty of bike parking. The eastern end of the lake is really quiet, near the suburbs of Fyshwick and Kingston, while the western end has plenty of gentle rolling hills, forests and countryside – a great way to spend a couple of hours in Canberra.
A cycling map of Canberra is available from the Visitor’s Centre on Northbourne Avenue as you head into Canberra from Sydney or Melbourne.
